The AFBPA Professional Passport

A secure, portable identity document that verifies who you are, what you can do, and where you are cleared to work — across the African continent.

What it is

Your professional identity, recognised across Africa.

The AFBPA Professional Passport is more than an ID card. It is a credentialed document — issued under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Mutual Recognition Framework — that confirms your identity, qualifications, employment history, and clearance status in a single, verifiable record.

Whether you are a makeup artist in Accra, a barber in Nairobi, or a spa therapist looking to work in Abidjan, your passport tells employers and clients exactly who you are and what you have achieved.

Each passport contains a unique AFBPA ID, machine-readable zone, and QR code linked to your live profile on ABPN Connect. It is renewable every three years and upgradeable as you progress through the professional tiers.

Eligibility

What qualifies you for a passport?

The Professional Passport is available to all AFBPA-registered beauty professionals who meet the following criteria. It is not limited to senior practitioners — even apprentices can hold a passport and build their record from day one.

01

Registered AFBPA Member

You must hold an active AFBPA membership at any tier — Apprentice, Technician, or Master Practitioner. Membership confirms you are part of a nationally recognised professional body.

02

Completed Certified Training

Have successfully completed an AFBPA-accredited training programme or equivalent national qualification in your beauty specialisation. This ensures foundational competence and safety standards.

03

Practical Experience

Demonstrate a minimum period of hands-on practice — typically 6 months for Apprentice tier, 2 years for Technician, and 5 years for Master. Employment or business records may be reviewed.

04

Clean Conduct Record

No outstanding misconduct cases, unresolved financial debts to employers, or active wage claims against you within the AFBPA compliance system.

05

CPD Compliance

For Technician and Master tiers, show active engagement in Continuing Professional Development. Credits demonstrate commitment to staying current with techniques, safety, and business practices.

06

Identity Verification

Submit valid government-issued identification and a professional photograph. The passport is a secure, tamper-evident document tied to your verified identity.

Benefits

The advantages of holding a passport

A Professional Passport is not just proof of who you are. It is a career accelerator, a trust signal, and a key that opens borders.

Cross-Border Mobility

Work legally across AfCFTA member states without re-examination. Your AFBPA certification is recognised under the Mutual Recognition Framework — one credential, 54 nations.

Verified Employment History

Employers can instantly verify your work record, standing, and tier level. No more paper references or guesswork — your career moves with you.

Faster Job Placement

ABPN Connect employers filter candidates by verified tier, specialisation, and clearance status. A valid passport puts you at the top of the shortlist.

Consumer Trust

Clients can scan your passport QR code to confirm you are licensed, certified, and in good standing. Trust becomes your competitive edge.

Tier Progression Tracking

Your tier history, CPD credits, and certifications are recorded in one place. Move from Apprentice to Master with a transparent, auditable trail.

Protection & Advocacy

As a passport holder, you are covered by AFBPA conduct standards and dispute resolution. You also gain a voice in sector policy and national representation.
